As the Marketing Manager for the South Carolina Education Lottery, Sam is ultimately responsible for ensuring SCEL’s strategic vision is executed throughout all marketing campaigns in order achieve annual revenue and brand awareness goals. More specifically, Sam works with his team to create advertising plans, manage social media strategy, and leverage sports/events sponsorships in ways that most appropriately promote SCEL’s 3 core messages: SCEL’s Beneficiaries, Product, and Responsible Play.
Prior to joining SCEL in November of 2019, Sam spent four and a half years at Chernoff Newman as an Account Manager and Media Planner/Buyer. During his time at Chernoff Newman, Sam was a part of various account service teams helping a diverse group of clients achieve their unique marketing goals in industries ranging from higher education to healthcare to food and beverage.
Sam has been a member of the AAF Board going on three years, previously serving as Treasurer, and is excited to be a member of the upcoming class of Leadership Columbia for 2020-2021.
Originally from rural Maryland, Sam moved to South Carolina to attend the University of South Carolina where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing. While in college Sam worked with University Intramurals which led him to an opportunity to keep clock for high school basketball games at Cardinal Newman for the past 5 years. During his senior year of college Sam met his wife, Caroline, who was born and raised in Columbia and loves to describe the city as “The Greatest City on Earth”. Sam and Caroline are two of Columbia’s biggest fans and love any opportunity to show friends and family everything that the city has to offer — especially Saturday’s at Williams Brice!
