In an attempt to raise awareness and excitement about the field of advertising and mass communications, the American Advertising Federation of the Midlands is giving one student the opportunity to spend time learning the ins and outs of a participating company or business in this dynamic and rewarding field.

Through a two week shadowing and internship experience, the student, chosen from a Midlands high school, will get to explore the many options and opportunities within the advertising and mass communications industry. Choosing from a number of participating companies and businesses in the areas of advertising, marketing, sales promotions, public relations, broadcast, account management and web development, the student will have the opportunity to see what working in a this profession looks like.

Aimed at minority high school students in the 10th-12th grade, we require that each applicant complete an application form, provide one letter of recommendation and write a one page essay highlighting the reasons why they would benefit from being chosen for the internship opportunity. After evaluating all applications received, we will choose the student that expresses the greatest desire to learn about this industry.

From the support of many Midlands businesses, we are able to create a hands-on learning environment for a student that might not have the opportunity to have such an experience. In doing this, we open their eyes to futures in careers they might not have considered before.

The passion we have for this industry and the desire we have to better a students outlook on their future careers is the backbone to our minority internship program. The American Advertising Federation of the Midlands believes that one spark could ignite countless possibilities.
